Know when to run!

Warning!  This is a political post.  If you'd prefer not to concern yourself, feel free to stop reading now.  But if you're up for it, please continue!

I never was any good at Texas Hold 'Em.  I'm way too cautious and way too honest to be good at it.  It's part of the reason why i don't play for money.  The other reason is that i think i have an addictive personality which means it wouldn't end well.  To be clear, i generally don't gamble at all except on fantasy football which i don't really consider gambling because you have so much control over the outcome.  I've also spent the last 3.5 years of my professional career in risk management which probably doesn't help either.

That said, i'm sure you've figured out i'm rather risk averse.  This is one of the reasons (but definitely not the only reason) why i'm supporting Hillary Clinton for president.  This is also the reason why i think i understand one reason why some may be supporting Trump.  The two candidates couldn't be any more of a contrast in leadership styles.  Hillary is steady and predictable and believes in gradual progress.  Trump is a reactionary who thinks with his gut.  Hillary is a meticulous planner whose sock drawer is probably organized and Trump has a "figure it out when we get there" mentality.  Hillary is deliberate and likes to know every possible detail before making a decision; Trump thinks knowing too much is a liability and would rather play a round than read a security brief.  One would be a safe bet (pocket Aces) and the other would be a real gamble (pocket 2/7 off suit).

As i stated, i'm risk averse so i'll pocket Aces rather than gamble on the hope that i can win on the flop or by bluffing my way to stealing the pot.  But i completely understand the sheer excitement and the adrenaline rush of taking the long odds.

The only problem with the gambler mentality here is that we're gambling with actual lives and livelihoods
